01 / COVID-19下的健身房要求
在大家的期待下，经过一系列的消毒和筹备工作，学校的健身房于上个月7号终于正式地重新开放了！然而，鉴于处于新冠疫情的特殊时期，学校健身房的重新开放是基于一定的条件和规定之上，即去健身房运动的同学们需要遵守几个方面的标准。对此，我们采访了学校Fitness Center和Studio的student worker，希望能了解目前所实施的具体要求。根据我们采访到的student worker，首先，“同学来健身需提前登记，现在每人每周最多三次，现阶段每个时间段内健身房最多可以容纳17人(studio不算)，使用器械后应放回原处，并用消毒湿巾擦拭”。其次，在健身的过程中，“同学们要求全程佩戴口罩，每隔十分钟会有worker巡视一次，发现没有佩戴口罩的同学会进行提醒，如果提醒同一位同学超过两次，会将该同学加入健身房黑名单，之后一周该同学将无法使用健身房”。而在健身房重新开放后，许多同学们或是已重新开始在健身房锻炼，或是了解了上述要求，因此，我们想就此听听他们的看法。
01 / Gym requirements under COVID-19
Just as everyone had expected, the school’s gym finally officially reopened on the 7th of last month after a series of disinfection and preparatory work. However, the reopening of the school gym is based on certain requirements and regulations due to the pandemic. Students who go to the gym must comply with the requirements.
We interviewed the student workers of the school’s fitness center and studio in hopes of understanding the specific requirements currently implemented. According to the student workers we interviewed, “Students need to register in advance to exercise. Now each person is up to three times a week. At this stage, the gym can accommodate up to 17 people (not included in the studio) each time. After using the facilities, students should return it to the original place and wipe it with a disinfectant wipe.” Secondly, in the process of exercising, “Students are required to wear masks throughout the process. Workers will patrol every ten minutes; students who found that they didn’t wear a mask will be reminded. If the same student is reminded more than twice, they will be added to the blacklist, and will not be able to use the gym in the next week.” Since many students have either already returned to exercise or learned the requirements after the reopening of the gym, we would like to hear their opinions.

Student 1：“锻炼戴口罩，呼吸不畅; 有氧运动不能做，无法达到减肥效果”
Student 1：“我周围健身的人 基本都在外面办了卡，包括我自己，学校只是偶尔补充一下，称之为‘体验’gym，因为之前一周只能预约两次，现在三次，属实不够”
Student 2: “接受不了学校健身房内要全程佩戴口罩的规定，所以去外面健身房办卡健身”
Student 2: “健身房内必须全程佩戴口罩有点难受，但可以理解，学校也提供健身完更换的口罩，所以也就觉得还好”
02/ Comments From Students
Some students believe that many of the rules, especially the requirement to wear a mask while exercising, are unreasonable and may even affect their health. Such requirements have been the main reason discouraging some students from exercising at the school gym.
Student 1: “Wearing a mask when exercising is not good for breathing and aerobic exercise cannot be done, so you can’t achieve weight loss effect.”
Student 2: “I don’t think it’s necessary to wear a mask all the time in the gym. Working out requires a lot of oxygen intake, and it’s unreasonable and even harmful to your health.”
Student 3: “This rule is very demotivating. Last year I went to the school gym at least twice a week, but this year with this rule, I didn’t go much even when the gym was back open.”
Many of these students have chosen to become a member in the gym outside school. According to them, the rules in gyms outside school are not as strict as the school’s requirement to wear a mask throughout the workout.
Student 1: “Many of my friends, including myself, go to gyms outside school because I could only make three appointments a week, which is really not enough.”
Student 2: “I couldn’t bear the rule that I have to wear a mask at all times in the school gym, so I went to the gym outside.”
On the other hand, other students have also expressed that the COVID-19 requirements are reasonable, especially in the fall and winter. The students still found the school gym to be a good place to work out.
Student 1: “The highlight of the school gym is the clean equipment and the availability to shower”.
Student 2: “It’s a little hard to wear a mask in the gym all the time, but it’s understandable, and the school offers a replacement mask after workouts, so it’s fine”.
03 / Health Center的建议
针对健身房对于COVID-19时期的健身要求，以及同学们的意见，Health Center给出了以下的信息可以作为建议和参考。一方面，Health Center表明以下情况可能最好不要佩戴口罩，比如戴着口罩进行像跑步这样的高强度运动可能会导致呼吸困难，而在进行可能会使口罩湿掉的活动，如在海滩或泳池游泳时，不应戴口罩因为湿口罩可能会导致呼吸困难。因此，Health Center建议，当进行以上所说的跑步和游泳等运动时，尽量考虑在通风和空气交换更好的地方(例如，室外)进行活动，并且最好与他人保持一定的距离。而在学校室内健身房运动时，为了个人和他人的健康安全，可配戴口罩进行不那么高强度和激烈的运动。此外，更换口罩、洗手，多饮水，更换干燥的衣服（如果运动时有大量出汗）都可以帮助减少感染的机会。再次进入疫情易发的秋冬季，截止本文撰写的时间，上海在短短几天内又新增数例新冠肺炎病例，因此，同学们要注意戴好口罩，做好个人防护的同时，也适当在户外或室内进行锻炼增强免疫力。
03/ Suggestions from Health Center
Regarding the gym’s fitness requirements during COVID-19 and students’ opinions, the Health Center provides the following information for advice and reference. For one thing, the Health Center suggests that it may be best not to wear a mask during intense exercise, as running may cause difficulty breathing. Also, when performing activities that may damp the mask, such as swimming at the beach or pool, you should not wear a mask because a wet mask may cause difficulty breathing. For this reason, the Health Center recommends that, when doing sports like running and swimming, consider doing it in places where there is better ventilation and air exchange (for example, outdoors), and at a distance from others. But when exercising in the school gym, we may wear a mask for less intense exercise for the sake of personal and others’ health and safety. For another, changing masks, washing hands, drinking plenty of water, and changing dry clothes (if you sweat a lot during exercise) can all help reduce the chance of infection. Once again in the autumn and winter, at the time of writing, several new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Shanghai in just few days. Thus, students should not only pay attention to wearing masks and do good personal protection, but do appropriate exercise outdoors or indoors to enhance immunity.
