2016 Halloween Roundup

Get OCA's recommendations on the best places to celebrate Halloween this year.

Whether it’s your first halloween in Shanghai or your last, want to make this year one to remember? OCA has you covered with a step by step guide on how to do Halloween 2016 right.

Friday October 28

  • 7:00 pm: Carnival of the Dead

Kick off your Halloween weekend by checking out the Carnival of the Dead event in B1 hosted by NYU Shanghai Student Government’s Events Committee. Always a great starting point before heading out into the city, you can munch on some candied apples as you check out this year’s fun events like the annual costume competition and haunted house as well as horror movie screenings, carnival games, the Ghost Story pit and Horror Corner.
Address: That building where your dreams go to die.

  • 10:00 pm The Spot

Head over to The Spot for unlimited free margaritas on Ladies Night and dance your little heart out to their (sometimes) weird music selection. Journey anyone?
Address: 铜仁路255号, 近北京西路

Saturday October 29

  • 11 am- 8pm Tarantino Halloween party for charity at The Market

If you haven’t been to the Market yet, you need to go. (We did a piece on it a while back.) They’re throwing a Halloween party for charity, with proceeds going to the Shanghai Young Bakers. There will be live performances, good food, vendors selling some cool stuff and a sneak peak of Dream Weaver Productions’ live stage adaptation of Reservoir Dogs for any Tarantino fans out there.
Address: 普陀区澳门路280号,进昌化路

  • 7 pm- late Freak Out Halloween Warehouse Festival 2016

If you’re looking to switch up your routine, SHFT is throwing a warehouse Halloween party with big names like Keith Ape and Araabmuzik as the headliners. Admission is kind of steep with general tickets priced at 280 rmb but the event looks worth it.
Address: 徐汇区石龙路569号, 近柳州路

  • 9 pm to late The Mansion Horror Rave

I think I’m the most excited about this one. One ticket (250 rmb) gets you 3 drinks and a ride on a free shuttle service between TWO different venues. Location 1: The Mansion Graveyard. Location 2: Creepy Warehouse @ The Door. I have no idea what that means but I’m excited to find out!
Address: 长宁区虹井路851号皇朝别墅B-18, 近延安西路

  • 9 pm to late Shanghai LBGTQ Pub Crawl

I didn’t know this, but apparently ShanghaiLGBT has been doing an annual pub crawl every Halloween, heading to many LGBTQ friendly venues around the Shanghai. It’s a 180 rmb at the door which includes entry into the difference venues, free shots and some kind of special drink deal.
Address: 长宁区泰安路141号, 近华山路

  • 9 pm to late 2016 Halloween Party @ Zapatas

Let’s face it. You’re going to end up here. You know it. I know it. We all know it. TEQUILA!
Address: shhh, you know that you know the way. You’ve drunkenly stumbled there many-a-time.

Sunday October 30

  • 3:30 pm onwards Disney Town Halloween Carnival

If you haven’t gone yet, now’s your chance. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday of October, Disneytown’s been doing a Halloween Carnival complete with Mickey Mouse jack-o-lanterns, the Mickey and Minnie, “Frightfully Fun Halloween Show” on the lakeshore and other themed activities.

Monday, October 31

Cry quietly (or out loud, hey, we don’t judge) as you wait for the sweet release of Friday. But as your resident brown girl, of course, I have to include the Diwali celebrations on Monday – The perfect way to end your fun Halloween weekend is by joining your fellow students on the 15th floor from 5-7. for a night of dancing and eating copious amounts of delicious Indian food.
